For nearly a decade, we have quietly convened the people who shape markets, policy and technology. This is the story of how a single room in Davos became a continuing global dialogue.
The Path That Led Us Here
Marcus and Alexander, the founders of Global Conversations, had long dreamed of attending Davos, where leaders from across the world meet each year. Years later, the fintech businesses they had built opened the door, turning that dream into reality. The relationships they formed there would later help them digitise the world's first mortgage.
Returning to Davos, the brothers saw how difficult it was to navigate the week without guidance. They invited a few friends over lunch at the historic Schatzalp. Eight people gathered around the first table. They called it "The Swedish Lunch".
The following year, the brothers planned to grow the lunch from 8 guests to 24. When the invitation unexpectedly leaked, more than 300 leaders requested to attend the event. Rather than cancel, they embraced the moment, and an intimate lunch became the foundation of something far greater.
As more people gathered around the table, the lunch evolved into a platform for ideas. Its first panels explored financial technology, sustainability and the future of mobility, with voices such as former prime minister Carl Bildt and astronaut Christer Fuglesang.
As the platform evolved, so did its subjects. Jean Todt and Nico Rosberg took the stage for a private panel, Boyan Slat shared his vision for cleaning the oceans, and an early AI discussion explored whether technology could translate animal communication.
The conversations moved beyond the walls of the Schatzalp with the first outdoor panels. Against the Davos landscape, Cecilia Skingsley, Stefano Domenicali and Nico Rosberg joined discussions spanning finance, investment and mobility.
Prince Daniel and Finance Minister Magdalena Andersson joined the growing community, alongside an investment panel with Johan H. Andresen of Ferd. The Farewell Brunch was introduced, closing the final chapter before the pandemic paused Davos.
After three years away, the community came back stronger. Sir Tony Blair and Alexander Stubb joined a private conversation, while the Swedish Lunch welcomed a record 1,650 guests.
A new chapter. The first Avicii Tribute Concert brought more than 500 people together for mental health awareness, while lounges, wristband access and private Koenigsegg experiences expanded how the community could connect.
The Executive Lounge opened on the Promenade, giving the community a permanent meeting point. More than 2,500 guests joined events across the week, with Vitali Klitschko and Deputy Prime Minister Ebba Busch among the participants.
The lounges moved into the Belvedere's Secure Zone as Global Conversations welcomed more than 3,500 guests. Justin Trudeau, Nigel Farage and Wladimir Klitschko joined the week, while Diplo headlined an Avicii Tribute Concert reuniting Aloe Blacc and Michael Einziger.
